The Homepage - activation

In your control panel, click on the title of the comic for which you want to activate a homepage. On this page, you will see a link: "Enable Home Page (Cannot be undone)"

When we say "cannot be undone," we mean it. It can't be undone. If you're at all unsure whether you want to use the homepage feature or not, consider making a temporary "throwaway" comic account where you can test the Homepage out (and then delete the account when you are finished experimenting).

Once the Homepage has been activated, you will be given a screen that looks like this:

This is the editing template page. There are two areas where you can edit HTML, the "Home Page Code" and the "Comic Page Code". Activating the homepage does NOT affect your original comic page template. If you had previously created a custom look for your comic pages, they are all retained and can be seen when viewing pages in your archive. That code is now kept in the "Comic Page Code" area seen above.

The Homepage does NOT automatically emulate the look of your custom comic page. You will have to edit the HTML for that yourself (something discussed later). However, if you have chosen one of the premade DD templates (Mallard Blue, etc.) the Homepage will activate with that template.

At default, the look of the Homepage is fairly plain and grey. At the top of the "Templates" screen (pictured above) you can choose a different look. Note that if you choose a different template, it will affect BOTH your homepage AND your comic pages. You can't choose a template just for your Homepage. Also note that if you choose a template and then decide to go back to "None/Default/Own" the Homepage does not go back to its default grey, instead keeping the previous template you'd assigned to it.

More notes: Clicking either "Send" button (excluding the one just below the "premade templates" choice box) on the template editing page will submit the information in BOTH fields. The fields can't be sent independently. If at any time you want to get back to the template editing page, you can find it in your comic's control area, under the link "Edit Design Template"

You can customize the homepage to a great degree. This is discussed in another topic.

This is the default template code in case someone wants it:
